I realized that I may have given Salvador, Brazil short shrift thus far on the blog. One of the many things I loved about it was the sense of history and antiquey-ness of it all. The central Pelurinho district, where I stayed, is really good for taking in all of the old buildings. Since Salvador was actually the first capital of Brazil, they made sure the buildings were rather stately, and the churches extra majestic.

The building you mentioned is being renovated looks like the old medical school that houses the Afro-Brazilian museum-one of my favorite spots to visit in Pelo.
I LOVE Salvador! The architecture, the food, the people, music, the life...I could go on.
I love old architecture. It tells a story so much more than new architecture. The detail the buildings in your pictures are amazing!

I adore old architecture! There is so much life and history inside those structures. I've done a few posts on old, creepy looking churches and they just fascinate me.
