Unlike last year when I blogged about one of his speeches, I thought I would leave you with something I found with some of his more notable quotations along with pictures.
For those of you with plans to visit Washington, DC this year, I hope you'll pass by the new Martin Luther King Memorial. I know I will when (and if) I get a chance to visit DC this year.
Wherever you are, I hope you'll take a few minutes today to remember Dr. King's contribution to the U.S and to the world.

I didn't know it was a public holiday iin the U.S. How do you celebrate it?
@Tony - Well, I wouldn't say that there are necessarily "celebrations" but educational institutions, social services organizations, religious organizations, etc. often have special programs for the day focusing on Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's. Some do community service projects. For me, usually read a portion of his writings or listen to a speech. That usually helps me remember. :)
Do you have a recommendation for a favorite biography on MLK Jr. or book about the civil rights movement in general?
@Melinda - Sure!
A nice introduction would be "The Struggle for Black Equality" by Harvard Sitkoff. Also the book "In Struggle" by Clayborne Carson is interesting because it focuses specifically on SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) and the younger members of the movement. Also I like watching the documentary "Eyes on the Prize" if you haven't seen it. It's great for its interviews and footage. I believe it has a companion book.
That should give you a good start! :)
Brilliant! Thanks Terri!
Oh cool! I was in DC last year but didn't see it. Must have been a new addition!
